I. Welcome

A practice of listening, footwork & time.

Indian classical dance is less about performance than it is about listening — to a rhythmic cycle, to a teacher, to the weight of your own body. The school teaches the foundations carefully and unhurriedly, from first footwork (tatkar) through storytelling (abhinaya).

Classes are open to beginners from age seven, with separate groups for adults. No prior experience is required — only the willingness to return each week.

To dance is to keep time with something older than yourself. Guru Ashu Devgune
II. What is taught

Three disciplines, one grammar.

I.

Indian Folk Dances लोक नृत्य

Regional folk traditions from Maharashtra and Rajasthan — lavani, koli, ghoomar and kalbelia. Earthy rhythm, group formations and the characteristic footwork of each region. Bollywood is offered as a separate course.

II.

Bharatanatyam भरतनाट्यम्

The codified South Indian form, built on adavus and the geometry of the body. Structure first, expression second — then, eventually, both at once.

III.

Foundations for children

A gentler introduction for ages 7–12 — posture, rhythm, simple stories. No exam pressure; the aim is a lifelong relationship with the art.
